Hien Thi Thu Ngo, MSc, PhD., currently works as a lecturer, public health researcher at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Thang Long University, Ha Noi, Vietnam. Her ongoing research concentrates on several areas including e-waste, exposure to heavy metals, exposure assessment, children’s environmental health, risk assessment and management in occupational and environmental health, communication and promotion of occupational and environmental health, as well as mental health.
From 2015 to date, Hien Ngo is the principal investigator and co-principal investigator of 12 research projects. She also authored or co-authored 20 scientific articles, comprising 8 international publications and 12 national ones. She also co-organized five one-day training workshops on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) targeted at healthcare workers and participants from mechanical Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and e-waste processing craft villages. Furthermore, she participated as an invited speaker or oral presenter at 12 international conferences and webinars during this period.
She also obtained certificates in Monitoring Working Environment (W501) from Workplace Health Without Border (WHWB) / American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) / National Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health (NIOEH) in 2018, Trainer on Occupational Health and Safety provided by Vietnam National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VNNIOSH) in 2021.
Since 2021, Hien Ngo has served as a mentor to 14 master’s students in public health, with 7 students currently under her guidance. She co-taught a course titled “Environmental Health and Sustainable Development Goals I and II” at the Hokkaido Summer Institute in Sapporo, Japan, during the years 2022, 2023, and continuing to 2024. Her lecture focused on the topic of “E-waste: A Growing Global Hazard and Health Burden”. She also contributed as an external expert to develop a 4.5-year engineering degree curriculum on Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (OSHE) for the Faculty of Environmental Science, Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University, starting in September 2023.
Additionally, Hien Ngo holds the position of Secretary at Workplace Health Without Borders – US Branch (WHWB-US). She is an official member of various organizations, including the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE), the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), the Vietnam Public Health Association, Vietnam Preventive Medicine Association, and the Vietnam Occupational Medicine Association. She also serves as a peer reviewer for the journal Science of the Total Environment.
